2014 Stories in Motion: Travel Writing in FranceThe application deadline for this program is November 14, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. This program aims to provide you with an opportunity to study the history, strategies, and functions of travel writing in Lyon, France. In this rich environment, you will reflect on your experience abroad and ways to use that experience to develop your writing skills. The course will address a variety of topics, such as incarnations of the travel writing that led to the democratized practices of contemporary travel writing, its relationship with the history of colonialism, its role in outlining national identities and the fashioning of the self through stories of one's relationship to places. I will also touch on new forms of travel writing in digital and print media while offering opportunities to develop your own writing.
