Free University of Berlin

The application deadline for this program is October 31, 2013 at 4:00 p.m.

This semester-abroad program is offered by the UBC Central, Eastern and Northern European Studies Department (CENES) in conjunction with its Berlin partner institution Free University Berlin (FUB). While on location in Berlin, you will explore the intersection of German drama and theatre as related to the Enlightenment period. You will study European intellectual history through cross-disciplinary work, linguistic immersion, and stimulating cultural experience. You will also have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the academic environment at Freie Universität Berlin (FUB), one of Germany's Excellence Universities. This opportunity will allow you to develop your own research topic within the program's framework while learning how to utilize FUB's resources and methodologies. Field trips to Hamburg and Dresden will offer you access to unique archival holdings and relevant historical source materials.
