This program will bring together faculty and students in the vibrant city of Montreal to explore French-Canadian literature, culture and language. Through a combination of historical visits, cultural events and classroom study of representative literary works, this course will offer an attempt to understand the city from the point of view of its French-speaking writers. Students will engage in deep learning about the roots and contemporary tendencies of French-Canadian literature and will practice advanced French language skills in an immersion context. Students can expect to benefit not only from discussions in class, but also from active engagement with primary historical sources, literary works and cultural foundations that have shaped French-Canadian language and culture.
